Control unit

Vacon · NXS NXP

What does 36 mean?

There is an incompatibility or communication failure between the NXS Control Unit and the NXP Power Unit (or vice versa). This prevents the control unit from properly commanding the power unit, effectively rendering the drive inoperable. This is often caused by mismatched hardware components or internal communication bus issues.

Common Causes

  • Loose or damaged internal ribbon cable connecting the NXS Control Unit to the NXP Power Unit.
  • Incompatibility between the firmware versions of the NXS Control Unit and the NXP Power Unit (e.g., unit A has v1.0, unit B has v1.2).
  • Hardware failure in either the NXS Control Unit or the NXP Power Unit preventing internal communication.
  • Damage to the internal communication bus or connectors (e.g., bent pins) between the units.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power off the drive and inspect the internal ribbon cable connections between the NXS Control Unit and the NXP Power Unit for proper seating and damage.

  2. 2

Verify the firmware versions of both the NXS Control Unit and the NXP Power Unit are compatible and ideally identical. Update firmware if necessary.

  3. 3

Perform a power cycle of the entire drive (main power off, wait, main power on) to reset both units.

  4. 4

Check for any visible damage on the connectors or PCB of both the NXS Control Unit and NXP Power Unit.

  5. 5

If possible, swap the control unit with a known good compatible unit to determine if the fault lies with the control unit or the power unit.
