F6-CEF

Option PCB Communication Error Fault

Yaskawa · E7 Drive

What does F6-CEF mean?

This fault occurs when a serial communication option board, attached to the drive at the 2CN connector, detects a communication error. Unless parameter F6-01 is specifically set to '3: Alarm Only', this condition will energize the fault output and potentially stop the drive, indicating a critical problem with the communication link to the option board.

Common Causes

  • Option communication board is not fully seated or improperly connected in the drive's 2CN connector slot.
  • Damaged communication cable or loose connections between the option board and the external network (e.g., broken wires, poor crimps).
  • Incorrect communication parameters configured on the option board via drive parameters (e.g., F6-02 for address, F6-03 for baud rate).
  • Faulty or incompatible option board hardware preventing proper communication initialization.
  • Network bus termination resistors are missing or incorrectly configured on the communication bus.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Power down the drive, firmly re-seat the option communication board into the 2CN connector, and ensure all mounting screws are tightened.

  2. 2

Visually inspect the communication cable for damage and verify continuity on all conductors using a cable tester.

  3. 3

Confirm drive parameters F6-02 (Option Board Address), F6-03 (Baud Rate), and F6-04 (Data Format) match the network master's settings.

  4. 4

Test with a known-good, compatible option board in the 2CN slot to determine if the fault is board-specific.

  5. 5

Verify proper installation and functionality of network termination resistors at both ends of the communication bus.

  6. 6

Monitor the communication line with a protocol analyzer or oscilloscope to identify data transmission errors or signal integrity issues.
