OL3

Overtorque Detection 1

Yaskawa · E7 Drive

What does OL3 mean?

The Drive output current exceeded the threshold set in L6-02 for longer than the time set in L6-03, indicating a motor overload condition. This fault protects the motor and mechanical system from damage due to excessive load.

Common Causes

  • Mechanical binding or jamming in the driven load, causing excessive motor torque demand.
  • Incorrectly set L6-02 (Overtorque Detection Level) parameter, leading to premature tripping.
  • Motor shaft or gearbox bearing failure increasing frictional losses in the mechanical system.
  • Excessive external load applied to the motor beyond its continuous operating capacity.
  • Damaged or improperly sized motor for the application, unable to handle peak torque requirements.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Measure motor current at U, V, W terminals with a clamp meter and compare to the value set in E2-01 (Motor Rated Current).

  2. 2

    2. Inspect the mechanical system (e.g., conveyor, pump, fan) for obstructions, seizing bearings, or misalignments.

  3. 3

    3. Verify L6-02 (Overtorque Detection Level) and L6-03 (Overtorque Detection Time) parameters are set appropriately for the application.

  4. 4

    4. Check motor winding resistance (U-V, V-W, W-U) with a multimeter for imbalances or open circuits.

  5. 5

    5. If continuous overtorque is detected, reduce process load or consider upsizing the motor/drive system.
