CPF12

Control Circuit Error

Yaskawa · GA500 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What does CPF12 mean?

This code indicates a generic hardware problem within the drive's control circuit. This suggests an internal malfunction that could prevent safe and reliable operation and may require internal component inspection or replacement.

Common Causes

  • Malfunction of the internal power management unit (PMU) on the control board responsible for generating stable voltages (e.g., 5V, 1.8V) for various control ICs.
  • Aging or faulty electrolytic capacitors within the control board's internal power supply sections leading to excessive ripple or voltage drops.
  • Overcurrent condition detected on one of the internal low-voltage rails, triggering the PMU's protective shutdown.
  • Damage to voltage regulator ICs or associated components (e.g., inductors, diodes) on the control board.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Record all essential drive configuration parameters (e.g., P1-01 Motor Data, P2-01 Control Mode) from the drive's display or software.

  2. 2

Isolate the drive by disconnecting the main AC power supply (L1, L2, L3) and wait for at least 5 minutes for the DC bus to fully discharge.

  3. 3

Measure the incoming AC supply voltage at the drive's power terminals using a true-RMS voltmeter; ensure it is within the specified range (e.g., 200-240VAC +/- 10%).

  4. 4

Conduct a detailed visual inspection of the control board, paying close attention to power supply sections for bulging capacitors, burnt resistors, or discolored areas.

  5. 5

Check for proper seating of all internal ribbon cables and connectors between the control board and other drive modules (e.g., power board).

  6. 6

Attempt a factory parameter reset (e.g., Parameter P9-02) to clear any potential software conflicts, then reload known good parameters if the fault persists.
