Control Circuit Error

Yaskawa · GA500 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What does CPF16 mean?

This code indicates a generic hardware problem within the drive's control circuit. This suggests an internal malfunction that could prevent safe and reliable operation and may require internal component inspection or replacement.

Common Causes

  • Failure of the internal user interface (keypad, display) processing logic or associated communication bus on the control board.
  • Faulty display driver IC or backlight power supply circuit on the control board preventing proper information display.
  • Corruption of user interface-related parameters (e.g., P0-01 Language, P0-02 Display Format) leading to display errors.
  • Damage to the ribbon cable or connector linking the physical keypad/display unit to the main control board.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Document any displayed error codes or messages, even if garbled, and current drive status indicators.

  2. 2

Perform a full power cycle by disconnecting main input power (L1, L2, L3) and waiting for at least 10 minutes for discharge.

  3. 3

Check for stable 24VDC control power at the designated terminals (e.g., +24V, COM) if supplied externally, using a multimeter.

  4. 4

Carefully inspect the control board and the keypad/display unit for any signs of damage, loose connectors, or frayed ribbon cables.

  5. 5

If the keypad/display is removable, detach it, inspect the contacts for corrosion, clean them with electrical contact cleaner, and reattach it firmly.

  6. 6

Attempt a factory parameter reset (e.g., Parameter P9-02) to clear any user interface configuration errors, noting that this will erase all custom settings.
