CPF20

Control Circuit Error

Yaskawa · GA500 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What does CPF20 mean?

This code indicates a generic hardware problem within the drive's control circuit. This suggests an internal malfunction that could prevent safe and reliable operation and may require internal component inspection or replacement.

Common Causes

  • Failure of the internal motor feedback processing unit on the control board (e.g., for encoder or resolver signals).
  • Corruption of encoder/resolver configuration parameters (e.g., P6-01 Encoder Type, P6-02 Pulses Per Revolution) causing misinterpretation of feedback.
  • Internal noise ingress affecting sensitive encoder/resolver signal lines on the control board.
  • Component damage (e.g., buffer ICs, signal conditioning circuits) within the control board's motor feedback interface.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Document all motor feedback parameters (e.g., P6-01, P6-02) and motor data (P1-01) from the drive's interface.

  2. 2

Completely power down the drive by disconnecting all incoming AC power (L1, L2, L3) and waiting for at least 5 minutes.

  3. 3

Check the external encoder or resolver feedback cable for physical damage, proper shielding termination (to PE terminal), and secure connection to the drive's feedback terminals (e.g., X3 connector).

  4. 4

Visually inspect the control board, especially the section dedicated to motor feedback processing, for any signs of physical damage or burnt components.

  5. 5

If the drive has a removable feedback option card, remove it, clean its contacts with electrical cleaner, and reseat it firmly.

  6. 6

Attempt a factory parameter reset (Parameter P9-02) and re-enter all motor and feedback-related parameters (P1-XX, P6-XX) to rule out software configuration issues.
