Communication Error1

Yaskawa · GA500 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What does dCE1 mean?

This communication error indicates a temporary hardware problem in the drive, likely caused by electrical noise interference. This can disrupt internal drive communication and operation, leading to unexpected behavior or shutdowns.

Common Causes

  • Excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) from external sources (e.g., welding equipment, large contactors).
  • Improper grounding of the drive or control cabinet, leading to ground loops or insufficient noise dissipation.
  • Degradation of internal data communication lines or buffer circuits due to aging components.
  • Loose internal ribbon cable connection between control sub-boards, causing intermittent data loss.
  • Malfunction of a specific internal communication chip (e.g., CAN controller, serial transceiver).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power cycle the drive and observe if the fault clears.

  2. 2

    2. Verify proper grounding of the drive frame and the motor cable shield to the drive's PE terminal.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect internal data ribbon cables and connectors for secure seating and damage.

  4. 4

    4. Install line reactors or EMI filters on the drive input (L1, L2, L3) if external noise sources are suspected.

  5. 5

    5. Separate control wiring from power wiring by maintaining minimum specified distances (e.g., 30cm).

  6. 6

    6. Check DC bus ripple voltage (at P+, N-) for excessively high values, indicating power supply instability.
