Option Card External Fault

Yaskawa · GA500 Maintenance and Troubleshooting

What does EF0 mean?

This fault indicates that the communication option card has received an external fault signal from the connected controller or that there is a programming error on the controller side. It can cause the motor to stop according to the drive's stop method settings.

Common Causes

  • External fault input terminal on the option card is active, signaling a fault from a connected device.
  • Programming error in the connected controller (e.g., PLC) causing an incorrect fault signal output to the option card.
  • Damaged or improperly shielded wiring connecting the external fault source to the option card's input.
  • Fault in the option card hardware itself, incorrectly interpreting a signal as a fault.
  • Power supply issue to the external device or controller providing the fault signal to the option card.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Identify the specific digital input terminal on the communication option card configured for external fault.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the voltage level at the identified external fault input terminal on the option card (e.g., 24VDC or 0VDC).

  3. 3

    3. Verify the logic of the external fault signal source (e.g., PLC output) to ensure it is not erroneously active.

  4. 4

    4. Disconnect the external fault wiring from the option card and observe if the EF0 fault clears.

  5. 5

    5. Check for proper grounding and shielding of the control wiring connected to the option card.

  6. 6

    6. Replace the communication option card if no external cause is identified and the fault persists.
