rUn

Motor Switch during Run

Yaskawa · J1000

What does rUn mean?

A command to switch motors was entered while the drive was still in run mode. This operation is typically disallowed to prevent incorrect motor control, unexpected behavior, or potential damage to the motors or drive components.

Common Causes

  • Operator error: activating a motor selection input (e.g., multi-function input H1-03 configured for motor 2 selection) while the drive is already in run mode.
  • Control system logic error: sending a motor switch command when the drive has not fully stopped or is still receiving a Run command.
  • Faulty external switch, relay, or PLC output maintaining an active motor selection signal while the drive is running.
  • Incorrect drive parameter configuration allowing motor switching during run mode or improper handling of run/stop commands during a motor changeover.
  • Transient activation of a motor selection input due to electrical noise or poor wiring practices.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Ensure the drive is in a fully stopped state (output frequency 0Hz, Run command inactive) before any attempt to change motor selections.

  2. 2

Review the master controller (e.g., PLC, HMI) logic to confirm that motor selection commands are only issued when the drive's Run command is inactive.

  3. 3

Verify the integrity of input terminals assigned to motor selection (e.g., H1-03) by measuring their state with a multimeter to ensure they are open (inactive) unless intentionally switched.

  4. 4

Check relevant parameters for multi-motor operation (e.g., A1-03, A1-04, A1-05 for motor data sets) to confirm proper configuration for sequential operation.

  5. 5

Monitor the status of the specific multi-function input bit (e.g., U1-01) in the drive's monitor menu to confirm it is not inadvertently toggled during operation.
