Ground fault

Danfoss · VLT 2800 Variable Speed Drive

¿Qué significa 14 ?

There is a discharge from the output phases to ground, which could be in the cable connecting the adjustable frequency drive to the motor, or within the motor itself. This fault poses a safety risk and indicates insulation breakdown.

Causas comunes

  • Insulation breakdown in the motor cables due to aging, abrasion, chemical exposure, or mechanical damage, causing a phase-to-ground short.
  • Insulation failure within the motor windings (stator or rotor) due to overheating, contamination, or mechanical stress, leading to a ground path.
  • Water ingress or excessive moisture in the motor terminal box or cable conduits, creating a conductive path to ground.
  • Contamination (e.g., metallic dust, carbon build-up) on drive output terminals (U, V, W) or busbars, creating a ground path.
  • Damaged output IGBT in the drive, causing a leakage current to ground.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

    1. Power off the drive immediately. Disconnect the motor cables from the drive's output terminals (U, V, W).

  2. 2

    2. Using a megohmmeter (500VDC or 1000VDC), measure the insulation resistance from each motor output phase (U, V, W) to ground, both on the motor cable and then directly at the motor terminals.

  3. 3

    3. Inspect motor cables for any signs of physical damage, cuts, or pinched insulation; repair or replace as necessary.

  4. 4

    4. Inspect the motor terminal box for moisture, corrosion, or contamination; clean and dry as required, ensuring proper sealing.

  5. 5

    5. If the fault clears with the motor cables disconnected from the drive, the issue is with the motor or cables. If the fault persists with no motor connected, the drive may have an internal ground fault.

  6. 6

    6. Ensure proper grounding (earth) connection for both the drive enclosure and the motor frame.
