EF4

External Fault at Terminal S4

Yaskawa · F7 Drive

¿Qué significa EF4 ?

This fault is triggered when an external condition connected to multi-function digital input terminal S4 activates the Drive's external fault function, causing the Drive to stop. It indicates an issue with the external device or process monitored by S4, which could lead to machine downtime or safety risks if misidentified.

Causas comunes

  • Activation of an external safety device or sensor connected to digital input S4 (e.g., pressure switch, door interlock).
  • Damaged or improperly connected wiring between the external device and Drive terminal S4.
  • Incorrect configuration of parameter H1-04 (S4 function selection) not aligning with the desired N.O./N.C. logic of the external switch.
  • Electrical noise on the control circuit inducing a false positive signal on input S4.
  • Malfunction of the external device itself, consistently signalling a fault condition.
  • Power supply failure for the external sensor connected to S4.

Pasos de reparación & Lista de verificación

Haga clic en los pasos para seguir su progreso.

  1. 1

Confirm the state of the external device (e.g., limit switch, E-stop button) connected to S4, visually and operationally.

  2. 2

Measure the voltage (e.g., 24VDC) at terminal S4 with respect to SN (common) using a multimeter to confirm its state.

  3. 3

Check the parameter H1-04 (S4 function) setting to ensure it is configured for 'External Fault' and matches the expected contact type.

  4. 4

Examine the cable run to terminal S4 for insulation damage, loose terminals, or incorrect termination at both ends.

  5. 5

Temporarily bypass the external device by jumpering S4 to SN (ONLY IF THE INPUT IS N.O. AND IT IS SAFE TO DO SO) to test the Drive's input.
