SP0012
DC Link Overcurrent / IPM Alarm
Fanuc · AC Spindle Motor Alpha i-Beta i Series Parameters
What does SP0012 mean?
An overcurrent condition is detected in the DC link of the converter, or an alarm is issued by the IPM (Intelligent Power Module). This usually indicates a short circuit in the motor, power module failure, or sudden high load.
Common Causes
- Short circuit in the motor or motor cabling.
- Faulty IPM (Intelligent Power Module) in the spindle amplifier.
- DC link capacitor failure.
- Overload condition causing excessive current draw.
- Ground fault in the motor or power leads.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Measure the resistance between motor phases (U, V, W) and ground.
- 2
Inspect the spindle motor power cables for signs of damage or insulation breakdown.
- 3
Check the DC link voltage (P+, P-) for stability under load.
- 4
Verify that the braking resistor circuit is functioning correctly.
- 5
Run a low-speed motor test while monitoring DC link current.
