Main Circuit Capacitor Recharge Failure (PSM, PSMR)

Fanuc · Series 30i CNC

What does 5 mean?

The main circuit capacitor within the PSM or PSMR unit failed to recharge within the specified time. This can indicate an issue with the power supply capability, a short circuit in the DC link, or a component failure in the recharge circuit. Failure to recharge can prevent the unit from powering up or operating correctly.

Common Causes

  • Too many SVM and/or SPM units connected, exceeding the PSM specification
  • The DC link is short-circuited
  • The recharge current limiting resistor is defective

Repair Steps

  1. 1

Check the specification of the PSM for the total number and type of connected SVM/SPM units

  2. 2

Check the DC link connection for any signs of a short circuit

  3. 3

Replace the distributing board to address a potentially defective recharge current limiting resistor
