PER

Program error

Lenze · 4800/4900 Series

What does PER mean?

This fault indicates an internal error within the drive's operating program or firmware. This is a critical internal software issue. By default, this condition is configured as a Warning, meaning it alerts the operator and is logged, but it does not immediately inhibit pulses. A program error can lead to unpredictable drive behavior and potential system instability or damage.

Common Causes

  • Corrupted firmware image due to an interrupted update process or power fluctuation during write operation.
  • Internal hardware malfunction (e.g., faulty memory chip) preventing proper firmware execution.
  • Software bug within the drive's operating system, potentially triggered by a specific sequence of operations.
  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) disrupting internal data buses or memory access.
  • Overheating of internal components leading to unstable operation.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Cycle power to the drive (turn off and on) and observe if the fault persists.

  2. 2

Backup all user parameters (P0-01 to P9-99) to an external tool if possible.

  3. 3

Attempt to re-flash the drive's firmware using the latest version provided by the manufacturer.

  4. 4

Perform a factory reset of all parameters (e.g., P9-97 = 1) and then reload a known good parameter set.

  5. 5

Check the drive's internal temperature (e.g., parameter P0-15) and verify proper cooling fan operation.
