What does 066 mean?
A time-out has occurred on the system bus (CAN) during remote parameterization (C0370, C0371), indicating a communication error of the gateway function. The slave device did not respond within the communication monitoring time.
Common Causes
- Slave device unpowered or offline: The targeted slave device is not powered on, is in a fault state, or has physically disconnected from the CAN bus.
- Incorrect slave address: The CAN bus address (e.g., parameter P7-02 for slave ID) used in the remote parameterization command (C0370, C0371) does not match any active device on the bus.
- Gateway configuration error: The gateway function within the master device (e.g., parameter P7-05 for gateway timeout) is misconfigured or has an internal fault preventing proper message forwarding.
- High bus load/latency: Excessive data traffic on the CAN bus is causing significant delays, leading to the parameterization command timing out before a response can be received.
- Inconsistent firmware: Firmware versions between the master and slave devices are incompatible for remote parameterization functions.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Verify that the slave device targeted by remote parameterization (e.g., based on slave ID set by P7-02) is powered on and not in a fault state (e.g., check its status LEDs).
- 2
Confirm the CAN bus address of the slave device (e.g., physically set by DIP switches or configured via parameter P7-02) matches the address used in the remote command (C0370, C0371).
- 3
Monitor the CAN bus traffic using a CAN analyzer to check for excessive load or intermittent communication errors during parameterization attempts.
- 4
Temporarily increase the communication timeout parameter (e.g., P7-05) on the master device to see if the issue is solely due to latency, then re-evaluate.
- 5
Check the device manual for specific parameterization registers (C0370, C0371) and their expected response times; ensure no conflicting bus communication is active.
