Mode Designation Error
Mitsubishi Electric · FR-D700 Inverter
What does Mode designation error mean?
Parameter setting has been attempted in External or NET operation mode when Pr. 77 Parameter write selection is not '2', or when the command source is not the operation panel. This error prevents parameter changes under specific operating mode constraints, aiming to maintain system stability and prevent unintended modifications.
Common Causes
- Attempting to change parameters via the operation panel (PU) while the inverter is in External or NET mode and Pr. 77 (Parameter write selection) is not set to '2'.
- A local operator tried to override settings from the PU, but the command source (e.g., Pr. 79 Operation mode selection) is configured for remote control.
- Inconsistent configuration between Pr. 77 (Parameter write selection) and Pr. 79 (Operation mode selection) for the desired control method.
- An external control system (e.g., PLC) is attempting to write parameters without proper handshaking or authorization in the current operating mode.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Access Pr. 77 (Parameter write selection) and set it to '2' (Write enabled from any source) to allow parameter writing from any source (PU, external terminals, or network).
- 2
Verify the current operation mode selected by Pr. 79 (Operation mode selection) to confirm it aligns with the intended control method (e.g., '0' for PU, '1' for External, '3' for NET).
- 3
If writing from the operation panel, ensure Pr. 79 is set to '0' (PU operation) or Pr. 77 is set to '2'.
- 4
If writing from an external source (e.g., PLC via network), confirm the external device has control authority in the current mode and Pr. 77 is set to '2'.
- 5
Re-attempt the parameter write operation after confirming the operation mode and write selection parameter (Pr. 77) are correctly configured.
