E 

Hardware or Software Error during Initialization

Mitsubishi Electric · MELSEC iQ-R Motion Controller

What does E  mean?

This fault code, displayed on the Motion CPU's dot matrix LED as 'E ', indicates a hardware or software error detected during the module's initialization phase. The '' placeholder represents a specific sub-code that further details the nature of the error. Such errors prevent the Motion CPU from starting up normally, potentially leading to system stoppage.

Common Causes

  • Internal hardware malfunction within the Motion CPU module, preventing successful initialization.
  • Corrupted operating system software or add-on libraries installed on the Motion CPU, preventing proper boot sequence.
  • Improper installation of operating system software or libraries, especially when using MT Developer2 with incorrect network communication routes or incompatible CPU versions.
  • Incorrect mounting of the Motion CPU module or a faulty power supply module on the main base unit.
  • Communication issues during software installation, such as using MELSECNET/H for Motion CPUs with production information '29' or earlier.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the Motion CPU module is correctly mounted to the main base unit, ensuring all securing mechanisms are fully engaged.

  2. 2

If the error occurs after attempting software installation, ensure the installation method is appropriate for the Motion CPU's production information. For Motion CPUs with production information '26' or earlier, use an SD memory card for installation. For CPUs with production information '29' or earlier, ensure the MT Developer2 communication route does not include MELSECNET/H.

  3. 3

If suspected power supply issues, exchange the power supply module on both the main and extension base units, then cycle the system power to check if the READY LED turns ON.

  4. 4

To isolate a faulty module, remove all modules except the Motion CPU. Then, progressively mount each additional module one at a time, cycling the power after each addition, to identify which module prevents the READY LED from turning ON.

  5. 5

If troubleshooting points to a hardware fault within the Motion CPU module itself, replace the Motion CPU module.
