Simple Positioning Module Fault

What does F116 mean?
F116 indicates a general fault within the MOVITRAC® B Simple Positioning Application Module, often accompanied by a suberror code (e.g., 14, 29, 78) to specify the exact issue. These suberrors can relate to hardware limit switch activation, exceeding software limit switch boundaries, or problems with encoder monitoring. This fault signifies that the drive has reached a monitored mechanical or software limit, or detected a sensor abnormality, which will immediately stop axis motion, potentially interrupting operations or causing an unexpected halt.
Common Causes
- Setpoint position specified outside the configured software limit switch ranges in positioning mode (suberror code 78).
- Axis reaching a position three windows before a software limit switch while in jog mode (suberror code 78).
- Axis physically reaching an activated hardware limit switch during travel (suberror code 29).
- Implausible encoder signals (e.g., incorrect direction of rotation) or a detected wire breakage when encoder monitoring is active (suberror code 14).
- Encoder fault persisting beyond the configured 'Encoder monitoring timeout' interval during startup while encoder monitoring is enabled (suberror code 14).
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
For suberror code 78 (Software Limit Switch Reached in positioning mode): Specify a new setpoint position that is located within the configured software limit switch ranges.
- 2
For suberror code 78 (Software Limit Switch Reached in jog mode): Reverse the direction of travel and then perform an error reset.
- 3
For suberror code 29 (Hardware Limit Switch Reached): Reverse the direction of travel to move the axis away from the hardware limit switch. An explicit error reset is not required for this specific suberror.
- 4
For suberror code 14 (Encoder): Visually inspect the encoder wiring for any signs of breakage, loose connections, or mechanical damage.
- 5
For suberror code 14 (Encoder): In the 'Monitoring 2' group of the startup window, verify the 'Encoder monitoring' selection field is correctly configured and the 'Encoder monitoring timeout' input field value is appropriate for the application.
- 6
Perform a general error reset by activating the DI16/X42:7 terminal (Error reset) after addressing the specific root cause indicated by the suberror code.
