44

Adjustable Current Limitation Exceeded

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIMOT MM..C

What does 44 mean?

This fault occurs when the MOVIMOT® drive operates at its adjustable current limit for more than 500 ms, specifically when the operating frequency is above 15 Hz. The unit indicates this status via rapid red flashing. It signifies that the motor or connected load is drawing current continuously beyond the configured maximum set by switch f2.

Common Causes

  • Drive operated at its current limit for a duration exceeding 500 ms.
  • Operating frequency is above 15 Hz.
  • The adjustable current limit set via switch f2 is configured too low for the actual application load.
  • Excessive mechanical load on the motor beyond its continuous rating.
  • Motor or driven equipment malfunction leading to increased current draw.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the position of switch f2 (I max [%] of I N) and adjust it upwards if the motor is rated for higher current, referencing the table for detent positions (e.g., 0=90%, 10=160% of I N).

  2. 2

Measure the actual motor current during operation to confirm it is consistently reaching or exceeding the set limit.

  3. 3

Reduce the mechanical load on the driven equipment to bring current draw within acceptable limits.

  4. 4

Thoroughly inspect the motor and mechanical system for any binding, damage, or wear that might cause increased current.

  5. 5

Evaluate the acceleration/deceleration ramp times; if they are too short, they can cause temporary current overloads.
