Encoder 2: EnDat internal fault/error

Siemens · SINUMERIK 828D CNC Control

What does 232111 mean?

The EnDat absolute encoder (Encoder 2) has reported an internal fault via its fault word. The fault value (r0949, binary) indicates the specific issue, such as lighting system failure, low signal amplitude, incorrect position value, encoder power supply problems (overvoltage, undervoltage, overcurrent), or a low battery condition. This prevents reliable position feedback.

Complete Troubleshooting Guide

  1. 1

Interpret the binary fault value (r0949) to precisely identify the encoder issue (e.g., lighting, signal amplitude, position value, battery status).

  2. 2

For internal encoder defects (e.g., lighting, signal amplitude, position value, overcurrent), replace the encoder. If it's a motor encoder with a direct DRIVE-CLiQ socket, the entire motor may need replacement.

  3. 3

For 5V power supply issues (overvoltage, undervoltage), check the plug-in cable between the encoder and the SMC or replace the SMC. If using a motor with DRIVE-CLiQ, replace the motor.

  4. 4

If bit 6 (battery must be changed) is set, replace the battery for encoders equipped with battery backup.
