Muting Lamp Fault (Safety Modules)
Allen-Bradley · Compact 5000 Digital I/O Modules
What does MutingLampFault mean?
This diagnostic is triggered on a 5069-IB8S or 5069-IB8SK module's test output point. It occurs under specific conditions related to muting lamp operation, typically when a short circuit is detected while the test output is configured for Muting Lamp mode and commanded ON. The I/O Status Indicator will flash red.
Common Causes
- Test output point shorted to 24V DC while in Muting Lamp mode and commanded ON
- Test output point shorted to another test output point while in Muting Lamp mode and commanded ON
- Test output point shorted to ground while in Muting Lamp mode and commanded ON
- Incorrect configuration of 'Muting Lamp Points' or 'Test Output Point Mode' parameters in Studio 5000 Logix Designer
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Disconnect the muting lamp and any associated wiring from the affected test output terminal.
- 2
Measure resistance at the test output terminal to 24VDC, other test output points, and protective earth ground — expect high resistance (open circuit).
- 3
Verify the muting lamp device is correctly wired and not internally shorted.
- 4
In the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application, check parameters for 'Muting Lamp Points' (e.g., Point 02, Point 03) and 'Test Output Point Mode' (should be 'Muting Lamp').
