4310

Excess temperature

ABB · ACS580

What does 4310 mean?

The drive's internal components (e.g., power module, heatsink) have exceeded their safe operating temperature limit. This indicates insufficient cooling or an overload, which can lead to reduced lifespan and premature failure of the drive if not corrected.

Common Causes

  • Blocked cooling fan or heatsink fins clogged with dust and debris, impeding airflow through the drive.
  • Ambient temperature inside the control cabinet exceeding the drive's maximum specified operating temperature (e.g., >40°C).
  • Continuous drive operation at or above rated current (P01.06) without sufficient cooling capacity.
  • Failure of the drive's internal cooling fan, preventing heat dissipation from power semiconductors.
  • Improper control cabinet ventilation or inadequate spacing between drives, causing heat buildup and recirculation.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Inspect the drive cooling fan for operation and clear any dust or debris from fan blades and heatsink fins using compressed air.

  2. 2

    2. Measure ambient temperature inside the control cabinet using a calibrated thermometer. Ensure it is within the drive's specified operating range.

  3. 3

    3. Verify drive loading by monitoring motor current (P01.06). Reduce load or consider upsizing the drive if consistently operating near or above rated current.

  4. 4

    4. Check for proper cabinet ventilation, ensuring intake and exhaust filters are clean and cabinet fans are operational.

  5. 5

    5. Confirm sufficient clearance around the drive for proper airflow as per installation guidelines (e.g., typically 100mm top/bottom clearance).
