EFB invalid parameterization

ABB · ACS580

What does 6683 mean?

The parameter settings for the embedded fieldbus (EFB) are inconsistent or incompatible with the selected protocol. This prevents the EFB from establishing a stable connection or communicating effectively, leading to operational errors.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect Embedded Fieldbus (EFB) protocol selection (e.g., Parameter P7-01).
  • EFB communication parameters (e.g., Node address P7-02, Baud rate P7-03) do not match the fieldbus master's configuration.
  • Incompatible or unsupported EFB configuration settings are active (e.g., I/O mapping P7-20 through P7-29) for the selected protocol.
  • A firmware update introduced changes in EFB parameter interpretation, invalidating previous settings without re-configuration.
  • Corruption of EFB parameter memory preventing valid parameter loading during startup.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Access drive parameters via control panel or PC tool (e.g., Drive Composer) and verify EFB protocol selection in P7-01.

  2. 2

Compare EFB node address (P7-02) and baud rate (P7-03) settings with the fieldbus master's configuration, adjusting as needed.

  3. 3

Review I/O data mapping parameters (P7-20 to P7-29) to ensure consistency with the fieldbus master's Process Data Object (PDO) setup.

  4. 4

Perform a parameter reset to factory defaults (P96-01=1) and re-enter all EFB-related parameters according to the fieldbus master's GSD/GSDML file.

  5. 5

If a firmware update occurred, reload the correct GSD/GSDML file into the fieldbus master and re-configure the EFB instance.
