Motor Overtemperature

ABB · ACS800 Standard Firmware

What does 4310 mean?

The motor temperature is excessively high, or appears high, due to factors such as excessive load, insufficient motor power for the application, inadequate motor cooling, or incorrect drive start-up data. Sustained overtemperature operation risks motor winding damage and premature failure.

Common Causes

  • Motor temperature has exceeded its safe operating limit.
  • Overload condition causing motor overheating.
  • Inadequate motor cooling (e.g., blocked fan).
  • High ambient temperature affecting motor.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check motor ratings and compare them against the actual mechanical load of the application.

  2. 2

Verify the motor's cooling system, including checking the cooling fan operation and cleaning any clogged cooling surfaces.

  3. 3

Review drive start-up data parameters, particularly those in parameter group 99 (START-UP DATA), for accuracy against the motor nameplate.

  4. 4

Check Fault Function parameters 30.04 to 30.09 related to motor temperature supervision for correct configuration.
