MOTOR STALL

ABB · ACS800 Standard Firmware

What does 7121 mean?

The motor is operating in a stall region, which occurs when the load exceeds the motor's capability, or the motor power is insufficient for the application. This fault is linked to bit 14 of Fault Word 2 (3.06 FW 2) and controlled by Fault Functions 30.10 through 30.12.

Common Causes

  • Motor speed is zero or near-zero while commanded to run.
  • Excessive mechanical load preventing motor rotation.
  • Motor winding fault.
  • Drive is commanded to run but motor is mechanically blocked.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Evaluate the mechanical load on the motor and compare it against the motor and drive's rated power and torque capabilities.

  2. 2

Review drive parameters related to motor stall protection, specifically 30.10 (Stall Function), 30.11 (Stall Freq Hi), and 30.12 (Stall Time).

  3. 3

Adjust the acceleration/deceleration ramps to reduce peak torque demands if the load is dynamic.
