A580

PU communication

ACS880 · Spinning and Traverse Control Program Firmware

What does A580 mean?

Communication errors have been detected between the drive control unit and the power unit. The auxiliary code (format XXXY YYZZ) provides specific details, where 'Y YY' specifies the affected BCU control unit channel (0 for broadcast or ZCU control units), and 'ZZ' indicates the error source (8 for Transmission errors in PSL link, 9 for Transmitter FIFO warning limit hit). 'XXX' specifies the transmission error direction and detailed warning code (e.g., 0 for Rx/communication error, 1 for Tx/Reed-Solomon symbol error).

Common Causes

  • Loose, damaged, or improperly connected cabling between the drive control unit and the power unit.
  • Transmission errors in the PSL link, including Reed-Solomon symbol errors, lack of synchronization, Reed-Solomon decoder failures, or Manchester coding errors.
  • Transmitter FIFO warning limit hit, indicating a buffer overflow during data transmission.
  • Internal hardware malfunction affecting communication components in either the control unit or the power unit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect all connections and cabling between the drive control unit and the power unit for secure seating and physical damage.

  2. 2

Examine the auxiliary code (XXXX YYYZZ) to identify the specific transmission error (e.g., Rx/communication error, Tx/Reed-Solomon symbol error, Tx/no synchronization error) and target troubleshooting accordingly.

  3. 3

Power cycle the drive to perform a system reset and attempt to re-establish stable communication.

  4. 4

If the problem persists with parallel-connected modules, try to isolate the issue to a specific BCU control unit channel indicated by the auxiliary code.

  5. 5

Contact ABB support if the issue cannot be resolved by external checks, providing the complete auxiliary code for further diagnosis.
