A793

BR excess temperature

ACS880 · Spinning and Traverse Control Program Firmware

What does A793 mean?

The temperature of the brake resistor has exceeded the warning limit defined by parameter 43.12 (Brake resistor warning limit). This indicates that the brake resistor is undergoing excessive thermal stress due to continuous or heavy regenerative braking cycles, or insufficient cooling.

Common Causes

  • Prolonged or excessively frequent regenerative braking cycles, causing the resistor to overheat.
  • The installed brake resistor is undersized for the application's braking energy and duty cycle requirements.
  • Insufficient cooling of the brake resistor due to restricted airflow, debris, or inadequate ventilation in its installation area.
  • Parameter 43.12 (Brake resistor warning limit) is set too low, triggering the warning prematurely.
  • Incorrect settings in parameter group 43 (Brake chopper), particularly related to resistor overload protection.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Stop the drive and allow the brake resistor to cool down completely to ambient temperature.

  2. 2

Verify the dimensioning of the brake resistor against the application's actual braking energy and duty cycle. Ensure it is not undersized.

  3. 3

Inspect the area around the brake resistor for any obstructions to airflow and ensure adequate ventilation for cooling.

  4. 4

Review parameter 43.12 (Brake resistor warning limit) and adjust its value if it is determined to be set too conservatively for the application.

  5. 5

Check the settings in parameter group 43 (Brake chopper) to ensure proper configuration of the resistor overload protection function.
