Allen-Bradley · PowerFlex 750
The current magnitude has exceeded the trip level set by P1640 [IPM Max Cur], as detected by the Intelligent Power Module (IPM). This fault protects the drive from severe damage due to excessive current. If persistent, it strongly indicates an overload, a short circuit condition in the motor or wiring, or an incorrect setting of P1640.
Click steps to track your progress.
1. Disconnect motor power cable from drive output terminals (U, V, W) and test for phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground shorts in the motor and cable using a megohmmeter (e.g., 500VDC).
2. Verify that motor nameplate parameters (P2-01 to P2-05) are accurately programmed into the drive.
3. Inspect the mechanical load for any binding, obstruction, or excessive friction that could cause an overcurrent.
4. Increase P400 (Accel Time 1) and P401 (Decel Time 1) to reduce current transients if mechanical conditions permit.
5. Monitor the actual output current (e.g., 'A0-04') during operation to identify when the overcurrent occurs.
6. If no external cause is found and the fault persists with the motor disconnected, replace the drive's power section or the entire drive.
