4301

Axis type not allowed

Beckhoff · TwinCAT 2 NC

What does 4301 mean?

The value configured for the axis type is unacceptable because it is not defined within the system's supported types. Valid types include 1: Servo, 2: High/low speed, and 3: Stepper motor. An incorrect axis type means the NC cannot apply the correct control algorithms and parameters, leading to axis malfunction.

Common Causes

  • Attempt to configure an axis with an invalid type (e.g., P1-02 set to '4') that is not supported by the drive firmware or controller.
  • Mismatch between the actual physical motor/drive combination and the configured axis type parameter (P1-02, Axis Type).
  • Outdated firmware on the drive or controller that does not support a newly intended axis type configuration.
  • Typographical error during manual entry of the axis type parameter (P1-02) via the drive HMI or configuration software.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Verify the configured axis type parameter (P1-02) matches one of the defined valid types: 1 (Servo), 2 (High/low speed), or 3 (Stepper motor).

  2. 2

    2. Consult the drive's technical manual for the specific model to confirm the supported axis types and their corresponding numerical values.

  3. 3

    3. Ensure the physical motor connected to the drive is compatible with the selected axis type (e.g., not trying to run a servo motor as a stepper).

  4. 4

    4. If attempting to use a new axis type, check for available firmware updates for the drive and controller that might expand supported types.

  5. 5

    5. Re-enter the axis type parameter (P1-02) carefully using the configuration software to avoid input errors.
