E2820

Braking resistor overload prewarning

Bosch Rexroth · IndraDrive C Drive Controllers

What does E2820 mean?

The external braking resistor is reaching its thermal limit due to excessive regenerated energy. Continued operation could lead to resistor damage or a full shutdown.

Common Causes

  • Excessive braking cycles or too much regenerated energy for the resistor's rating.
  • Braking resistor undersized for the application's duty cycle.
  • Inadequate cooling for the braking resistor.
  • Faulty braking resistor thermal sensor or incorrect parameterization.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Check the application's braking duty cycle and ensure it is within the braking resistor's specifications. Reduce deceleration times if possible.

  2. 2

Verify the braking resistor's resistance and power rating against the drive and application requirements.

  3. 3

Ensure adequate airflow around the braking resistor for cooling and clear any obstructions.

  4. 4

Check the wiring of the braking resistor's thermal sensor, if present, and verify its functionality.
