AMA internal fault (Persistent)

Danfoss · VLT HVAC Drive High Power

What does 57 mean?

An internal fault occurred during the Automatic Motor Adaptation (AMA) process. While a single occurrence might be transient, repeated occurrences suggest a more persistent issue within the drive's control logic or its interaction with the motor, potentially heating the motor due to repeated attempts.

Common Causes

  • A transient internal drive software or hardware anomaly occurred during AMA.
  • Minor power disturbance to the drive's control board affecting internal processing.
  • Temporary corruption of internal drive memory or program execution.
  • Excessive electromagnetic interference (EMI) affecting sensitive internal circuits.
  • Aging or marginally faulty internal component (e.g., current sensor, processor).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Cycle power to the drive (power off for 30 seconds, then power on) and retry the AMA.

  2. 2

    2. Perform a factory reset of the drive (e.g., P14-20 = 2) and carefully re-enter all motor and application parameters.

  3. 3

    3. Verify incoming AC line voltage stability (L1, L2, L3) using a voltmeter and check for transient sags or surges.

  4. 4

    4. Check for proper grounding of the drive and motor, ensuring ground wire resistance is below 1 Ohm.

  5. 5

    5. If possible, attempt AMA with a different known-good motor (if available) to rule out motor-specific interactions.
