AIF Communication Error

Lenze · 8200 Series

What does ce0 mean?

A communication error has occurred on the AIF (Application Interface) interface, indicating faulty transmission of control commands. This often points to a loose or improperly seated communication module. Unreliable communication can lead to loss of control and unexpected drive behavior.

Common Causes

  • Loose or improperly seated AIF communication module on the main control board.
  • Damaged AIF communication cable (e.g., RJ45, USB-B) between the controller and the HMI or master PLC.
  • Incorrect communication protocol settings (e.g., baud rate, parity, data bits) configured in Parameter P7-01 to P7-05 (AIF settings).
  • Electrical noise interference on the AIF bus due to improper cable shielding or grounding.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify the AIF communication module is securely seated in its slot on the drive controller, checking for bent pins.

  2. 2

Inspect the AIF communication cable (e.g., Ethernet, USB) for physical damage, crimps, or loose connectors at both the controller and the master device.

  3. 3

Measure the cable continuity for all conductors using a multimeter if the cable is removable and suspect.

  4. 4

Confirm communication parameters (e.g., baud rate, data bits, stop bits, parity) in P7-01 (Baud rate), P7-02 (Data format), and P7-03 (Device address) match the master device's configuration.

  5. 5

Check the grounding and shielding integrity of the AIF communication cable and ensuring it is not routed near high-current power cables.
