FAn1

Fan Failure

Lenze · 8200 Series

What does FAn1 mean?

The cooling fan, particularly in 8200 motec controllers (3...7.5 kW), has either failed or is disconnected. This condition can lead to the controller overheating, potentially causing thermal shutdown and reducing the lifespan of internal components if not addressed promptly.

Common Causes

  • Cooling fan (especially 8200 motec controllers 3...7.5 kW) mechanically obstructed by dust or debris.
  • Cooling fan disconnection from its power supply within the drive.
  • Internal failure of the cooling fan motor (e.g., worn bearings, open winding).
  • Insufficient airflow around the drive causing the fan to run continuously and fail prematurely.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Disconnect mains power and visually inspect the fan blades and grille for physical obstructions (e.g., dust, debris).

  2. 2

    2. With power off, gently rotate the fan blades by hand to check for mechanical binding.

  3. 3

    3. Using a multimeter, measure the supply voltage to the fan terminals (e.g., 24VDC) while the drive is powered on and demanding cooling.

  4. 4

    4. Check the fan's electrical connector for loose pins or corrosion at the drive's control board interface.
