LP1

Motor Phase Error

Lenze · 8200 Series

What does LP1 mean?

One or more motor phases have failed, the motor current is unusually low, the motor is too small for the drive's rated power, or the DC injection brake is active during identification. This indicates a potential issue with the motor connection, motor sizing, or incorrect operating conditions. Operating with missing or low phases can cause motor overheating, damage to windings, and erratic operation.

Common Causes

  • Open circuit in one or more motor phases (e.g., broken motor cable, faulty motor winding).
  • Motor contactor failure (e.g., stuck open pole) if present between drive and motor.
  • Motor current is unusually low, indicating a very light or disconnected load (Parameter C0004 should reflect actual current).
  • Motor significantly undersized for the drive's rated output power (e.g., 0.5kW motor on 11kW drive).
  • DC injection brake active during motor parameter identification or normal operation when not expected.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Disconnect the motor and measure the resistance of each motor phase (U-V, V-W, W-U) at the motor terminals; values should be balanced.

  2. 2

    2. Measure the continuity of each motor phase cable from the drive output to the motor terminal box.

  3. 3

    3. Verify that the rated power of the connected motor (P0-01) is appropriate for the drive's nominal output power.

  4. 4

    4. Check the status of the DC injection brake function and disable it (e.g., Parameter C0015 set to 0) if it is active during unwanted periods.
