E01

Over-current at Constant Speed

Omron · MX2 Inverter

What does E01 mean?

This fault indicates that the inverter detected an excessive current flow while the motor was operating at a constant speed. This can be caused by a short circuit in the motor output, a locked motor shaft, or a sudden heavy load on the motor, leading to inverter shutdown to prevent damage.

Common Causes

  • Motor winding insulation breakdown causing phase-to-phase or phase-to-ground short circuit.
  • Bearing seizure or mechanical obstruction in the driven load, leading to a locked rotor condition.
  • Motor terminal block short circuit due to moisture ingress or conductive debris.
  • Incorrect Parameter P1-03 (Motor rated current) or P1-04 (Motor no-load current) settings, leading to misinterpretation of normal operating current.
  • Sudden, high mechanical shock load on the motor while operating at constant speed.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Measure insulation resistance between motor output terminals U, V, W and between each terminal and ground (PE) using a megohmmeter (insulation tester).

  2. 2

Check for mechanical obstruction or bearing damage by decoupling the motor from the load and attempting to rotate the motor shaft manually.

  3. 3

Inspect motor terminal block and output wiring for signs of arcing, carbon tracking, or loose connections.

  4. 4

Verify Parameter P1-03 (Motor rated current) and P1-04 (Motor no-load current) settings against motor nameplate data.

  5. 5

Monitor the output current (display parameter d0-03) while the motor is running at constant speed to identify peak current values.
