E08

EEPROM Error

Omron · MX2 Inverter

What does E08 mean?

This fault indicates a problem with the inverter's built-in EEPROM memory, often caused by electrical noise, power fluctuations, or excessive temperature. When this error occurs, the inverter trips and turns off its output to the motor to prevent further data corruption or erratic behavior.

Common Causes

  • Severe electrical noise or electromagnetic interference (EMI) on the control circuit, corrupting EEPROM data.
  • Unstable or intermittent control power supply (e.g., 24VDC) causing write/read errors in the EEPROM.
  • Excessive operating temperature within the inverter, stressing memory components beyond their specification.
  • Internal hardware fault of the EEPROM chip itself or its interfacing circuitry on the control board.
  • Repeated parameter writes or power cycling at high frequency, potentially exceeding EEPROM write endurance.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Cycle the inverter's main power supply off for 5 minutes, then back on to attempt a soft reset of the EEPROM.

  2. 2

Inspect control wiring for proper shielding and grounding, ensuring separation from power cables to reduce EMI.

  3. 3

Measure the control power supply voltage (e.g., at terminals +24V, CM) using a multimeter to confirm stability.

  4. 4

Check the inverter's internal cooling fan operation and clear any dust or obstructions from heatsinks to ensure adequate cooling.

  5. 5

Perform a factory reset (e.g., Parameter P9-02 set to 2) to reinitialize EEPROM data, then re-enter application parameters.
