Channel Switching Error

Schneider Electric · Altivar Machine ATV320 Variable Speed Drive

What does CSF mean?

A detected error during channel switching. This can occur in applications with dual control channels or safety functions, potentially leading to incorrect control source selection or unexpected behavior, posing a risk if the wrong control source is active.

Common Causes

  • Discrepancy between redundant safety inputs (e.g., STO1 and STO2), indicating a sensor or wiring fault.
  • Incorrect parameterization of safety function logic or channel selection (e.g., Parameter P6-01 for safety input type).
  • Faulty internal safety relay or control logic board preventing proper channel synchronization.
  • External safety circuit component failure (e.g., safety relay, light curtain, E-stop button) causing conflicting signals.
  • Timing violation or sequence error during the transition between control channels, indicating a software or hardware issue.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Verify the status of both safety input channels (e.g., LI1 and LI2 for STO) via the drive's HMI or diagnostic menu.

  2. 2

    2. Inspect the wiring and connections of all external safety devices (e.g., E-stop, safety gates) to their respective drive inputs.

  3. 3

    3. Confirm that safety parameters (e.g., Parameter P6-01, P6-02) are correctly configured for the installed safety functions.

  4. 4

    4. Bypass external safety circuits one by one (following strict lockout/tagout procedures) to isolate the faulty component.

  5. 5

    5. Perform a safety function test as per machine manufacturer guidelines, observing drive response and input states on the HMI.
