Power EEPROM Error

Schneider Electric · Altivar Machine ATV320 Variable Speed Drive

What does EEF2 mean?

A detected error within the Power EEPROM. This memory typically stores power stage specific calibration data and hardware information. Corruption can lead to incorrect power stage operation, impacting motor control and potentially causing internal hardware damage.

Common Causes

  • Corruption of calibration data stored in the power EEPROM due to a manufacturing defect or component aging.
  • Power stage component failure (e.g., IGBT, rectifier module) causing inconsistent data to be written or read.
  • Transient voltage spikes or surges impacting the integrity of the power EEPROM during operation.
  • Firmware incompatibility between the control board and the power board, leading to data interpretation errors.
  • Internal communication bus failure between the control board and the power board preventing proper data exchange.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

    1. Power cycle the drive. If the fault persists, verify input power supply quality (e.g., voltage stability, harmonics) to rule out external disturbances.

  2. 2

    2. Perform a power stage component self-test if available via the diagnostic menu (e.g., check IGBT gate drive signals).

  3. 3

    3. Check for any visible damage or signs of overheating on the power board components, including the EEPROM chip location.

  4. 4

    4. Ensure the control board and power board are correctly seated and interconnected within the drive unit.

  5. 5

    5. If the fault persists after all other troubleshooting, consider replacing the power board or the entire drive unit.
