Schneider Electric · Altivar Machine ATV320 Variable Speed Drive
A hard detection of an IGBT short-circuit. This indicates a severe internal failure of the Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistor (IGBT) within the drive's power stage. This is a critical hardware fault that can cause catastrophic damage to the drive and is usually not field-repairable.
Click steps to track your progress.
1. Disconnect incoming AC power from the drive's input terminals (L1, L2, L3) and wait for DC bus discharge (0VDC).
2. Disconnect motor cables from the drive's output terminals (U, V, W).
3. Use a diode test function on a multimeter to check the rectifier (input L1/L2/L3 to DC bus) and inverter sections (DC bus to output U/V/W).
4. Look for visible signs of damage (e.g., burn marks, bulging components) on the drive's power board.
5. If diode test indicates shorted IGBTs, consider the drive as requiring replacement or professional repair.
