Earth fault

Vacon · 20 Compact

What does 3 mean?

The current measurement system has detected an excessive leakage current to ground during startup. This is a strong indication of an insulation failure, either in the motor cables connecting the drive to the motor or within the motor windings themselves.

Common Causes

  • High resistance between motor phases and ground.
  • Insulation failure in motor windings or cables.
  • Faulty converter output stage to ground.
  • Humidity or contamination on motor or cables.
  • Incorrect grounding of the motor or system.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Inspect all motor cables for any signs of damage or compromised insulation.

  2. 2

Perform an insulation resistance test (megger test) on the motor cables and motor windings to ground and between phases, expecting resistance values greater than 1 MΩ.
