Saturation Trip

Vacon · NX Liquid-Cooled Drive

What does 7 mean?

This fault signifies a critical issue such as a defective internal component or a short-circuit/overload condition in the brake resistor. This fault cannot be reset from the keypad, requiring a power cycle of the drive. If occurring with Fault 1, it suggests a motor cable or motor issue.

Common Causes

  • Motor exceeds rated torque, causing current to reach saturation limits.
  • Overload condition due to excessive mechanical load on the driven equipment.
  • Incorrect motor sizing for the application, leading to continuous high current draw.
  • Faulty motor winding or insulation failure causing increased current.
  • Parameter P1-12 (Maximum Current Limit) set too low for operational demands.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Switch off all power to the AC drive at the main circuit breaker.

  2. 2

DO NOT RE-CONNECT POWER until further investigation.

  3. 3

If this fault occurred simultaneously with Fault 1 (Overcurrent), thoroughly inspect the motor cables and the motor for any damage or short circuits.
