EF6

External Fault

Yaskawa · VS-616G5 Variable Speed Drive

What does EF6 mean?

This fault indicates that an external protective device or interlock connected to a specific digital input (corresponding to EF6) has been activated, triggering a trip in the inverter. The specific cause depends on the external device wired to that input. This is a safety feature to stop the drive based on external process conditions, preventing damage to the system or injury.

Common Causes

  • Process condition monitored by an external sensor connected to EF6 has exceeded limits (e.g., over-pressure, high temperature).
  • Cable breakage or loose terminal connection on the digital input assigned as EF6 (e.g., S6).
  • Faulty external sensor or switch providing an incorrect trip signal to EF6.
  • Misconfigured digital input function or logic for EF6 within inverter parameters (e.g., P0-09).
  • Accumulation of moisture or foreign material on external sensor contacts causing a short or open circuit.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Locate the external sensor or switch wired to the EF6 input terminal (S6).

  2. 2

Examine the process condition (e.g., pressure gauge, temperature reading) that the EF6 device monitors.

  3. 3

Measure the voltage at inverter terminal S6 relative to SC to verify the input signal's state.

  4. 4

Test the continuity of the wiring from the external device's contacts to the inverter's S6 input.

  5. 5

Isolate the external device from the inverter by disconnecting its wire from S6 and measuring its contact state directly.
