EF7

External Fault

Yaskawa · VS-616G5 Variable Speed Drive

What does EF7 mean?

This fault indicates that an external protective device or interlock connected to a specific digital input (corresponding to EF7) has been activated, triggering a trip in the inverter. The specific cause depends on the external device wired to that input. This is a safety feature to stop the drive based on external process conditions, preventing damage to the system or injury.

Common Causes

  • Auxiliary contact of a motor starter or contactor connected to EF7 has opened, indicating a fault downstream.
  • Wiring damage or poor connection between the auxiliary contact and the digital input assigned as EF7 (e.g., S7).
  • Mechanical malfunction of the external device's auxiliary contact.
  • Parameter misconfiguration (e.g., P0-10) for the digital input function, leading to an incorrect fault trip.
  • Electrical noise on the control circuit causing a momentary false trip on the EF7 input.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Identify the external device (e.g., motor contactor, thermal overload relay) whose auxiliary contact is wired to EF7 (S7).

  2. 2

Check the operational status of the external device; ensure it is energized and not tripped.

  3. 3

Measure the voltage between inverter terminal S7 and SC to confirm the input signal's level.

  4. 4

Inspect wiring integrity from the auxiliary contact to the S7 terminal for breaks, shorts, or loose connections.

  5. 5

Use a multimeter to verify the continuity of the external device's auxiliary contact when it is in its expected non-tripped state.
