Electronic thermal relay function pre-alarm

Mitsubishi Electric · Mitsubishi FR-E800 Variable Frequency Drive

What does TH mean?

This pre-alarm appears if the cumulative value of the electronic thermal O/L relay reaches or exceeds 85% of the preset level in Pr.9 (Electronic thermal O/L relay). It serves as a warning that the motor is approaching its thermal limit, and a protective shutdown will activate if 100% is reached.

Common Causes

  • Motor winding temperature nearing the thermal overload limit.
  • Excessive motor current draw over an extended period.
  • Ambient temperature sensor reading indicates high operating temperature.
  • Motor thermal model calculating a high temperature (e.g., based on P3-XX parameters).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Reduce the load on the motor and/or decrease the frequency of operation.

  2. 2

Set an appropriate value in Pr.9 (Electronic thermal O/L relay) according to motor specifications and application requirements.

  3. 3

Check for conditions causing large load or sudden acceleration.
