What does 1508.3 mean?
This status bit, when active (1), indicates that the received data frame did not terminate with a valid stop bit, leading to a loss of synchronization. This is a common issue when the data bits or stop bits settings are mismatched between the communicating devices, or if there is significant line noise causing signal distortion.
Common Causes
- Mismatched settings for data bits (e.g., 7 or 8) or stop bits (e.g., 1 or 2) between the SCU and the Destination Device.
- Noise or interference on the communication line corrupting the start/stop bit sequence.
- Damaged serial communication port on either the SCU or the Destination Device.
- Physical wiring issues causing intermittent signal loss or distortion.
Repair Steps & Checklist
Click steps to track your progress.
- 1
Verify that the data bits (e.g., 7 or 8) and stop bits (e.g., 1 or 2) settings are identical on both the SCU and the Destination Device.
- 2
Inspect the serial communication cable for proper shielding and secure termination, ensuring it is isolated from electrical noise sources.
- 3
Check the physical connection points of the serial cable at both the SCU and Destination Device terminals for looseness or damage.
- 4
Swap the serial cable with a known-good cable to rule out cable defects or poor quality.
