Thermal Overload of Brake Coil / Defective Brake

SEW Eurodrive · [PDF] MOVIMOT® MM..D with AC Motor DT/DV / Operating Instruc

What does 89 mean?

This fault indicates a thermal overload of the brake coil or a defect within the brake itself, including incorrect connection. Overtemperature can lead to reduced braking force, premature wear, or complete failure of the brake mechanism.

Common Causes

  • Ramp time set too short, causing excessive brake engagement/disengagement cycles or slippage.
  • Defective brake coil.
  • Incorrect connection of the brake coil.
  • Incorrect combination of the drive (brake coil) and MOVIMOT inverter.
  • Incorrect setting of DIP switch S1/6 for 'MOVIMOT and motor with one lower power rating' combinations.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Increase the set ramp time to reduce brake stress.

  2. 2

Perform a brake inspection (refer to 'DR/DV/DT/DTE/DVE Series AC Motors' operating instructions').

  3. 3

Check the brake coil connection for correct wiring and integrity.

  4. 4

Check the combination of the drive (brake coil) and MOVIMOT inverter if the fault is signaled shortly after the first enable.

  5. 5

For 'MOVIMOT and motor with one lower power rating' combinations, check the setting of DIP switch S1/6.

  6. 6

Reset the fault by switching off and then switching on the DC 24V supply voltage.
