MEMOBUS/Modbus Communication Error

Yaskawa · Drive Fault Codes

What does CE mean?

A communication error has occurred on the MEMOBUS/Modbus network, preventing the drive from exchanging data correctly with a master controller or other devices. This can lead to loss of remote control, monitoring, or coordinated operation.

Common Causes

  • Incorrect wiring or improper termination (e.g., missing or incorrect resistor values) on the MEMOBUS/Modbus network
  • Incorrect communication parameters (e.g., slave address, baud rate, data format) in the drive (Parameters b2-01 to b2-04)
  • Network interference or electrical noise affecting communication signals on the bus lines.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Verify wiring connections (e.g., A/B lines, shield) and bus termination resistors on the Modbus network.

  2. 2

Check drive parameters for Modbus communication (e.g., b2-01 Slave Address, b2-02 Baud Rate, b2-03 Data Format) and ensure they match the network configuration.

  3. 3

Monitor communication line signals using an oscilloscope to detect noise or signal integrity issues.
