Cross connection

ACS880 · Primary Control Program Firmware

What does 3181 mean?

The ACS880 drive detected an incorrect connection of input power and motor cables. Specifically, the input power cable is connected to the drive's motor output terminals, which is a critical wiring error.

Common Causes

  • Severe wiring mistake during installation or maintenance, where the incoming AC supply cables (L1, L2, L3) were connected to the drive's motor output terminals (U, V, W).
  • Parameter 31.23 Cross connection is set to 'Fault', enabling the detection and tripping for this specific wiring error.
  • Mislabeling of cables or terminals during installation.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

  2. 2

Visually inspect all power wiring connections to the drive (input and output).

  3. 3

Verify that the incoming AC supply phases (L1, L2, L3) are connected only to the designated input terminals of the drive.

  4. 4

Verify that the motor power cables (U, V, W) are connected only to the designated motor output terminals of the drive.

  5. 5

Double-check all wiring against the drive's hardware manual wiring diagrams and the electrical schematics of the installation.
