Overvoltage on DC side (PV2)

Fronius · Primo GEN24

What does 506 mean?

The Fronius Primo GEN24 208-240 inverter has detected an excessively high voltage from the PV2 string on the DC side, exceeding its maximum input voltage rating. This poses a risk of damage to the inverter's DC-DC stage.

Common Causes

  • Overvoltage on the DC side (PV2).
  • Incorrect PV array sizing (too many modules in series).

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Disconnect the PV2 string using the DC disconnector and measure the open-circuit voltage (Voc) of the PV2 string.

  2. 2

Compare the measured Voc with the maximum DC input voltage specification for the Fronius Primo GEN24 208-240 inverter.

  3. 3

Verify the number of PV modules in series for PV2; ensure it does not exceed the inverter's maximum voltage rating, especially at cold temperatures.

  4. 4

Check for any miswiring or faulty components in the PV2 string that could result in an unexpectedly high voltage.

  5. 5

If the array configuration is validated and within specifications, power cycle the inverter to clear the fault. If the error persists, contact Fronius service.
