13.3

Invalid Encoder Data (Encoder 1)

SEW Eurodrive · MOVIDRIVE system

What does 13.3 mean?

Encoder 1's nameplate data, such as measuring steps, pulses per revolution, or multi-turn counts, is invalid or incorrectly configured. This means the drive cannot accurately calculate position or speed, leading to severe control errors. Persistent invalid data will prevent proper drive function.

Common Causes

  • Drive parameters for encoder resolution (e.g., P7-05 pulses/rev) do not match the actual encoder specifications.
  • Incorrect multi-turn configuration (e.g., P7-07, P7-08 limits) for an absolute multi-turn encoder.
  • Corrupted internal encoder memory (e.g., nameplate data) preventing the drive from reading valid information.
  • Parameter settings for the encoder's zero position or offset (P7-09) are out of range or illogical.
  • Firmware discrepancy or incompatibility between the encoder and the drive regarding data interpretation.

Repair Steps & Checklist

Click steps to track your progress.

  1. 1

Carefully check and re-enter all encoder-specific parameters (P7-xx series) according to the encoder's technical datasheet.

  2. 2

Verify the pulses per revolution (PPR) or measuring steps parameter (e.g., P7-05) directly from the encoder's nameplate.

  3. 3

For multi-turn encoders, confirm the multi-turn range settings (e.g., P7-07 max, P7-08 min) are within the encoder's capability.

  4. 4

Perform an encoder reset or re-calibration routine (if available via drive parameters, e.g., P7-10).

  5. 5

Check for any diagnostic registers or status words from the encoder (if accessible) that might indicate internal data corruption.
